Micología en Ruedas

Micología en Ruedas is an outreach education program designed to expose middle and high school students to the fascinating world of mycology. Through hands-on laboratory workshops, the program provides an immersive learning experience that fosters early interest in mycology and scientific research. By introducing students to this specialized field, the program aims to cultivate a new generation of science enthusiasts and potential future professionals in biological and mycology.
My role and impact
I founded and managed Micología en Ruedas, overseeing its development from concept to execution. I designed the program’s structure, created an engaging curriculum for middle and high school students, and led hands-on workshops covering fungal biology, ecology, and environmental impact. I collaborated with school districts and educators to integrate the program into science curricula, built key partnerships, and managed all logistics, including scheduling, materials procurement, and safety compliance. Additionally, I secured a $5,000 grant from the Mycological Society of America to support program sustainability and developed bilingual educational resources to expand accessibility. Post-workshop assessments showed a ~30% improvement in students' understanding of mycology, with 80% expressing increased interest in STEM careers. Through this initiative, I strengthened science education and inspired the next generation of scientists.
